Africa’s startup scene is seeing a promising year ahead in 2026, with new funding, acquisitions, and climate-tech investment dominating the discourse. WeeTracker’s daily tracker has been busy with new funding activity, and TechCabal reported that African tech funding hit €1.44 billion in the first half of 2026.

In the meantime, fintech and software deals continue to dominate the scene. WeeTracker was able to highlight some of the most interesting deals such as the alliance investment by Timon, Better Auth acquired by Vercel after raising a seed round, Flutterwave seeing strategic investment from Circle ventures, and Bridgement raising funds to enable AI-driven SME lending. All in all, African startups continue to be attractive to strategic investors, buyers, and partners.

Another hot topic in tech is climate technology, and this continues to keep investors engaged and active. The Catalyst Fund recently closed a €30M fund for African climate startups. Climate-tech has seen a prolific year in fundraising on the continent. Climate-tech covers a wide range of areas, from sustainability technologies to adaptation and resilience, and is an attractive space for impact-driven investors. With the exception of some parts of Africa already being severely affected by climate change, it is a pertinent issue for many developing countries. It is also a pertinent issue for many established economies such as the US and Europe.

The funding landscape is also changing, with a more mature deal pipeline. While 2025 was a banner year for fundraising on the continent, 2026 is more about quality over quantity. Selective fundraising is the new normal.
