Africa’s Startup Ecosystem Gains Momentum As Funding, Exits, and Leadership Activity Accelerate Across Markets Africa’s Startup Ecosystem Gains Momentum As Funding, Exits, and Leadership Activity Accelerate Across Markets

Africa start-ups growth trends are becoming more evident as they continue to be capitalized on, bought by different entities, and led by new executives in the past few months. According to a recent Africa startup digest, there have been several CEO transitions at Yoco, Wasoko, and mPharma. There has also been a surge in financing successes in fintech and climate tech and mobility, indicating a shift away from growth-stage markets to ones that are more practical.

Startups in Africa are still getting much-needed funding as witnessed by Kredete, which closed a $22M Series A, Contactable which raised $13.5M, and MazaoHub, which raised a $2M pre-seed. Apart from fundraising trends, another positive sign that indicates that startups are on a growth path is the fact that they are concentrating on specific sectors in their respective countries. For example, Morocco’s HRTech scene is on the rise and is led by Geteam, Invirtus, Jobzyn, Kwiks, Menbita, PayLik, and Palm.Ai.

Lastly, it bears mentioning that the most significant positive development that can be mustered from the performance of Africa’s startup scene in the current period is leadership. Startups’ founders worldwide are being pushed to deliver by a combination of factors, including the current business environment, which is made up of limited capital, evolving competition, and changing customer preferences.
